How are we funded?

Ronald McDonald House is a registered charitable trust run by a board of trustees, a small staff and lots of volunteers.

It costs approximately $800,000 a year to run the House and Family Room.  This includes all the normal bills associated with any 13 bedroom house.   It also covers minor repairs and maintenance as well as more significant capital expenditure for replacement of major items and ongoing refurbishment such as replacing carpet throughout the House.

We don’t receive any direct government funding. Some of the families who stay have part of the cost of their stay paid for by their local Hospital Board.

McDonald’s Restaurants of New Zealand Limited is a key supporter through its own charity, Ronald McDonald House Charities which provides us with an annual operating grant and assitance with significant capital projects.  To learn more about Ronald McDonald House Charities please visit www.rmhc.org.nz

In spite of this income we still need to raise more than $500,000 each year from the community in the form of donations and sponsorships to keep these vital and much-needed facilities running.
